Because I changed locations a lot for the Navy, we didn't buy a house until 2006, when I retired. A 2700 sq ft ranch in a small town on Virginia's eastern shore for $245k. Sold it in 2020 for $292k. Nice enough older home, nice neighborhood (dang, I lived next to the mayor, and later, two down from the new mayor!), town livin' though... I've got a few acres now in TN.

1978, new 3/2/2 in Lewisville TX, basic starter home was $36, 850 iirc. Payment was $383, only a few dollars more than the rent I was paying gor a 2/2/1 duplex in San Clemente CA.
In 1980 my parents bought a built in 1978 4-3-2 on a 1/3 acre corner lot in Highland Village but it was $99K. Sold it in 1998 for $160K. It's worth $469K now.

102,000 in 1998. 3 bedroom, 2 bath, with attached 2 car garage with unfinished bonus room over the garage. The realtor was the builder. You picked your lot & your floor plan. The standard floor plan offered was 1350 or 1400 sq. ft. for $96,900 but for another $3,000 there was the option of having all rooms slightly larger. I opted to pay for the extra space. Bonus room has been finished in now. adding another 250 sq. ft. Comparable homes in my area have been selling for over $300,000 now. The area has changed a lot. When I retire I am seriously considering selling & moving further from Atlanta. The big question is which direction to go.

Edited to Add: I neglected to say the size of my lot. It is 1.286 acres. One of these days I'd love to live where could walk out in the yard & shoot if I felt like it.

So not real sure where this is headed but the thing I don't like is the government thinks my house is worth about twice what I paid and now I am taxed on that. My property taxes are about 3500 a year and will go up based on this new assessment. Meanwhile my paycheck isn't going up to keep up with everything.

Sort of a highjack...

We got maried in '73 (I was 20), bought our first house in 1975 for $8000. It was a 1000 square ft. fixer upper on a 50x120 lot. It was a good old house, just needed some paint and green shag carpet. We lived there for 3 years then bought a 2400 sq ft home,3 bed, 2 bath with a formal living room and den on 1 acre corner lot for $42000. It had hardwood floors, fireplace, SOLID mahogany cabinets, storm cellar and 2 car garage. My wife worked for the phone company so we got a good deal and put a phone in every room including the master bath.
We've always lived in Oklahoma.
We've been married 51 years and have moved several times over the years. Last move was in 2017. 4 bed 3 bath on 26 acres with a small lake and a gun range. My next move will be to the funeral home, whenever.

I guess getting divorced might pay. Haven't tried yet.
And while we're on the subject, with taxes and insurance we pay about $500 a month to live in our house which we own outright. Crazy.
Yeah but OK has State Income Tax. Texas has property tax that hurts.

1983, southwest of Denver near the foothills, new build 3BR, 1BA, full unfinished basement stubbed for 2nd bath, 2 car garage, $86K with $5K down. Small lot but it backed up to a green belt where the hot air ballons would land, we watched them out the kitchen window. We had to leave for my next job in MN about 6 months later. Current Zillow Zestimate for that house is $607,600, but it says 4BR, 2BA, so I guess there's been some basement finishing.

Had we stayed put and had kids right away, like my then wife wanted, they surely could have been at Columbine HS during the shooting.
