Bob Wright's post about flying with a .22 revolver as passenger reminded me of a memorable business trip. In the early 80's I was working for Michigan Bell and had to attend a meeting at Ohio Bell in Cleveland. As usual, I ignored the company travel and routed my own flight plan. I booked from the old Detroit City Airport to Burke Lakefront Airport. I had about a 30 minute drive, walked 50 yards from the parking lot carrying my bag to the small terminal. The flight left on time, boarded a Convair Turboprop with (I swear) Mohair seats, roomy and comfortable. I ordered a scotch and was given a hand-poured drink in a real rocks glass, which I barely had time to finish before landing. I went through the terminal to a taxi. I was in my downtown hotel probably no more than two hours from parking my car in Detroit. The same trip today would probably take six hours, less amenities and conveniences. Those WERE the good old days!
